I'm a first time user of Ryka's. In fact, I hadn't even heard of this brand. I am, however, very picky about my sneakers. I will pay top dollar for them and I won't buy just any pair. They have to fit right the first time. I don't believe there is any "breaking in" period for a sneaker. If its comfortable when you first put it on, then its perfect. It sometimes takes me many tries to find the right sneaker. This year I decided I was going to look for something online, and I started here on Amazon bec/ I often buy items from this venue. I spotted these and immediately did a separate search to read reviews of them. The reviews were very positive, with one note being the recommendation to buy them a half size larger. I went ahead and did the unthinkable, and bought these shoes online, fit untried. I have to say that they are amazing!! --but don't buy them a half size larger!!! They fit great already. The heel is fitted and the foot is boxy enough for my wide feet. I was shocked that these were so comfortable, when I am so hard to please. I highly recommend them.
